Satlink Ws-6979 Software Upgrade New! ⚡
Satlink WS-6979 Software Upgrade — Project Report
Objective
Upgrade the Satlink WS-6979 receiver software from current firmware to the latest stable release to improve stability, channel compatibility, and feature set while minimizing downtime and service disruption.
Step 3: Execute Upgrade
- Select the firmware file using the arrow keys.
- Press OK to confirm.
- A warning will appear: “Upgrading will erase user data. Continue?” – Press OK.
- Do NOT touch any button or power off. The screen will show a progress bar (typically 0% → 100%). This takes 1–3 minutes.
Post-upgrade steps
- Check and reapply any custom antenna/LNB/DiSEqC settings.
- Run an auto-scan and verify transponder detection and signal readings.
- Verify features advertised in release notes are present.
- If problems appear, try a factory reset (after backing up user data) and re-configure.
Before you begin — checklist
- Fully charge the WS-6979 battery or keep the device powered from stable source during the whole process.
- Prepare a USB flash drive (FAT32 recommended) formatted and tested.
- Obtain the correct firmware file specifically for WS-6979 (verify model number and hardware/revision if available).
- Read the device user manual section on firmware update. The manual notes update is via USB and warns not to power off or remove the disk during update.
- Make note of any custom settings (satellite list, LNB settings) because they may be lost.
- Have a second device or download link handy in case you need to re-download firmware.
Identifying Clone vs. Genuine
There are cheap clones of the WS-6979. If you have a clone, uploading genuine firmware will instant-brick the device. Clones usually have slightly different menu colors or missing logos. If you are unsure, contact your seller for a specific file. Satlink Ws-6979 Software Upgrade
